Leo North Latvia Club activities in December
December is kind of special for us, because it begins with the day we
were founded. We decided to celebrate this date together with
International Leo and International Volunteering day in 5th of December,
because that was the day when some of our Leos were invited to local
event where volunteers of our city Valmiera were congratulated. It was a
great honour for us and we are very proud that 9 out of 14 people
invited to this event were members of Leo Northlatvia. The criterion for
such honour was 60 h volunteering for local good; Leos served for
Palliative Care ward in Vidzemes Hospital – helped to feed seriously ill
patients, talked with them and tried to bring a little bit of joy in
their emotionally tough daily routine.
On December 17th we visited local kindergarten which is specialized for
children with different physical or mental impairment. Since Lions club
Valmiera cares for children with vision difficulties they donate glasses
and special toys to improve these children ability to see. Leo
Northlatvia always joins Lions and helps with entertaining children with
games and funny stories. This event usually turns out very sincere
because children are showing their Christmas performance, which
always makes us feel the warmth in our hearts.
 
During this Christmas time we also had a duty to hand out presents
prepared by local Lions club to children who are not living with their
biological parents. Actually it was pretty hard to realize how they will
feel about this at the beginning, but during this process we found out
that these children are very kind-hearted, friendly and thankful. They
have accepted their condition and don’t feel more unfortunate or worse
than others.
As I already mentioned, we spend a lot of time in Palliative Care ward
and the greatest goal during Christmas time was to give pleasure to
patients whose Christmas will be spent in the hospital. We went there on
21st of December and brought them self-baked gingerbreads and other
sweets, we also decorated this ward and lit a candle by their bed – so
they could feel the Christmas! We have been visiting them for more than
one year and we will return there again and again, because it brings so
much humanity to our personalities, it is indescribable how happy they
are and how much it means to us!!
December is the month when everyone should sum up all the actions
performed this year. Leo Northlatvia decided to have a wonderful Winter
Ball in Great Gatsby style to celebrate all the good we have done and
also to give thanks to each other for the wonderful team work. Of course
there are some who are more passive in our club, but they are 100% in,
because everyone in our club knows – we can count on them. 
We would also like to wish all the best to other Leos and we hope
that next year will be full of good and unforgettable projects!!
