The camp of friendship and planning – 8th and 9th of March
Since the North Latvia LEO club is at the moment the
only one in Latvia all the LEOs agreed that it is necessary to hold a planning
event where we would decide what kind of activities we would like to organize
and what each of us individually would like to do. Besides this it was really
important to also know each other. That’s why the monthly meeting was replaced
by a 2 day long camp in the country house of Martins Mazkalns. To reach our
targets of the day we invited a coach and lifelong scout Nils Klints who was
giving us physical exercises outside to unite us as a team and also helped to
structure our thoughts when planning activities for year 2008.
The most important conclusions:
·
a LEO respects himself and other LEOs
·
before doing the task LEO talks to other members and
agrees upon how to do it
·
after an activity LEO talks through the result and
agrees what should be improved the next time
·
initiative is in the hands of a LEO that knows what he
is doing!
·
LEO does only a task that he feels comfortable doing
and other LEOs support him
·
LEO is not afraid to talk about problems but always
seeks for a positive solution
·
when acting together LEOs can do the impossible!
It was decided that LEOs will try to organize yearly
activities one of which could be Christmas in the hospital and the other –
spring cleaning in a kindergarten. At the end of May members will help to
organize the international Eye glass mission which every two years is organized
by Valmiera and Michigan Lions Clubs. During this mission people from Valmiera
region can do a free of charge eye test and also receive glasses completely for
free. In the autumn LEOs are planning to organize a day of activities in the
youth centre of Mazsalaca.
Parallel to the activities targeted to people outside
the club LEOs also agreed that during their meetings they will teach each other
useful things like healthy eating habits, project writing, how to attract a
financial support etc.
After the camp all of the members felt satisfied
because now we know the most important – together we can do even things that
seem impossible! (March 2008)
