Centre of social care Aluksne welcomes donation from Sundbyberg (July, 2013)

By warmhearted assistance of LC Sundbyberg Social care centre of Aluksne receives donation - 5 brand new beds for their inhabitants. This project is just a part of sponsorship action for 2013 being in general financed by donation raised by LC Sundbyberg and managed by its counterpartners - LC Alūksne.

Co-operation between LC Sundbyberg and LC Alūksne has its history far back into 1995 when LC Alūksne was founded by LC Sundbyberg the latter becoming sponsors of our club. However the fact we met each other is not just a historical coincidence. Since Latvia regained its indepencency in 1991 some earlier unavailable international activities spread out rapidly and Sundbyberg, suburb of Swedisc capital Stockholm, became the first city abroad Aluksne mucicipality had an partnership agreement. So contact on municipal level lead to extensive private contacts and as a result new LIONS club LC Alūksne was founded. Since that both municipality of Sundbyberg and LC Sundbyberg has provided many actions to provide people of Alūksne and surroundings with necessary services and things they can not afford due to different reasons.

During years not only municipal contacts have developed. Also co-operation between Lions clubs has been developing. Members of LC Alūksne were very pleased to got informed on interest of LC Sundbyberg to land donation of 30 000 SEK to be used to support community of Alūksne. LC ALūksne took responsibility to provide questioning of municipal and non-governmental institutions on their the most accute needs and as a result several options been discussed as well in Alūksne and Sundbyberg. The final decisions on what directions of support to be acknowledged has been taken by LC Sundbyberg.

As a fruitful result of this decision part of donation in amount of 400 lats has been used to provide social care centre of Aluksne with brand new beds for their inhabitants. Cooperation with social care centre Alūksne (earlier called as house for elderly) has been under attention of our friends in Sundbyberg since many years so this is not the first project there financed by donations of Swedish club.
