LCIF Grant to reduce the spread of Covid-19 virus in Latvia

Fallowing the situation in all over the world, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) in the beginning of April decided to let all countries (where Lions clubs are taking place) to apply for an emergency grant up to 10 000 USD in order to reduce Covid-19 virus spreading.

Thanks to this generous donation, Latvia Lions clubs members could help a couple of Latvia hospitals and social help centres. In total, little bit more than 11000 face masks, few hundreds of respirators, disposable boot swabs, rubber gloves, desinfectant fluid and desinfectant spraying devices were delivered to Vidzeme hospital, Riga maternity hospital, Jurmala hospital, children's palliative care association and Social centres Gauja and Plavnieki.

Taking into account that this Covid-19 spreading time has been quite tough for medical staff, part of the grant was used for meals for the on-call team of the Valmiera Emergency Medical Service and the staff of the Valmiera central COVID-19 testing point. By collaborating with Valmiera catering company Kantine-B, these meals every day for two weeks will be delivered to 13 people from medical staff.

Day by day, the purpose of Lions clubs international foundation is to financially support Lions clubs all over the world to make projects in their local communities. Although attraction of such LCIF grant in Latvia was done for the first time, we believe we will be much experienced and ready to implement similar projects in the future.
